Infrastructure Design

Straiton Retail Park

Site Infrastructure Design and Civil engineering is one of the primary services we offer and covers all sectors of the construction industry. Working across all of the industry sectors, we have the knowledge and expertise to advise on the civil engineering requirements of development and infrastructure projects, from the feasibility stage through to construction.

We can provide Highway and Drainage Engineering advice from the initial concept stage through to design and construction.  We provide early input to assess flood risk and define drainage strategies to support sustainable development. Our Infrastructure Team have extensive experience of assessing flood risk and designing sustainable yet cost effective solutions.

We adopt a pro-active approach to Infrastructure Engineering and focus on providing sustainable and cost effective solutions for our clients.  Our core skills include:

  • Adoptable Residential & Industrial Estate Drainage Design
  • Traditional Site Drainage Design
  • Flood Risk Assessments
  • Sustainable Drainage Strategies
  • Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) Design
  • Commercial & Housing Estate Road Design
  • Paving Design and Specification
  • Traffic Calming and Traffic Management
  • Roundabout and Junction Design
  • Vehicle Swept Path Analysis
  • Car Parking Layouts and Control Systems
  • 3D Ground Modelling
  • Cut & Fill Assessment and Earthwork Volumes

We identify both the constraints placed on development by regulatory requirements and site conditions and the opportunities that can be created by practical and innovative design. We work closely with the project team and stakeholders to ensure the project deliverables and goals are achieved or exceeded while providing sustainable solutions.

We always aim to design sustainably by measures including optimising site levels to reduce disposal to landfill, strengthening weak ground to minimise the import of stone and the utilisation of stormwater.

Efficient drainage systems and making appropriate space for water is a key component in the effective planning of any development. We assess the existing drainage regimes of a site, and mimic existing or natural processes within the design. We do this by a thorough process of investigation and assessment of information, including local planning policies, site inspections and surveys to ensure design decisions are made on a sound evidence base.

Our engineers have extensive knowledge of national, regional and local policy, legislation and best practice technical guidance. As an integrated part of the project team we develop drainage strategies which are appropriate to both the site and development aspirations.

The principle of SUDS is to manage the flow rate and volume of run-off to reduce the risk of flooding and pollution, whilst improving bio-diversity where possible. Our engineers not only understand the technical design requirements, but also the implications of the approval processes; this means that we can advise on the key areas of both risk and cost to your project and help to reduce them.
