CCE were appointed by McLaren to undertake the Civil and Structural Engineering design services for the delivery of the new Premier Inn Hotel, as part of the CQ2 development in Banbury, adjacent to Castle Quay shopping centre.
The new build project, which is situated along the Castle Quay Waterfront, comprises a 117 bedroom eight-storey accommodation building, with a podium structure at first floor. The podium structure is a single storey braced steel frame with a concrete slab providing diaphragm stability, whilst the foundation design is a piled foundation solution with a suspended piled slab at ground floor level. The remaining floors are constructed from a light gauge steel frame, brick leaf masonry with cladding over SFS.
The building was constructed on a site previously occupied by an existing external car park and an adjacent multi-storey car park; as a result Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) testing was carried out on four representative samples collected from site.
