CCE were appointed to provide Structural and Civil Engineering Consultancy Services in connection with the Expansion of the Castle Quay Waterfront shopping centre in Banbury – ‘CQ2’.  The new 506,000 sqft development comprises new restaurant and leisure space, creating an attractive destination for residents and visitors.

The extension to the complex includes:

  • Block A – a 117-bed Premier Inn Hotel
  • Block B – a ten-screen Light Cinema
  • Block C – a Lidl superstore with a 438-space car park across two levels
  • Block D – existing Social Club
  • 244 new parking spaces

Works include associated roadworks, as well as the installation of a new canal bridge expected to improve ease of access from the site into other areas of the town.  As part of the flood prevention strategy for CQ2, a 20m-long, 2.4m wide bridge was removed to accommodate a new Thames Water drainage system. Some of the bridge materials have been recycled to create a modern art piece for the public to enjoy.
