CCE were appointed to the new Research Centre for the University of Birmingham and Rolls Royce; comprising a mixture of offices, technical laboratories, industrial space and ancillary facilities. The industrial research space will house a variety of equipment to include furnaces, die casting equipment, kilns; with the furnace being 8.5m high and requiring a 4.5m deep pit.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and using Revit as BIM design tool, CCE designed the research facility with flexible accommodation that satisfies the intellectual property security requirements of the various partners. The scheme utilises a solar wall and photovoltaic’s to reduce energy consumption.
This was a technically challenging project with multiple stakeholders with complimentary drivers.
